Unbound Access

Unbound is committed to becoming more and more accessible to more and more members of our increasingly diverse community. Although we strive to implement as many accommodations as possible, we are keenly aware we may have missed certain individual needs. Please do not hesitate to email us at accessibility@unboundbookfestival.com to inform us of how we can make the entire festival, our communications, volunteer groups, or events and venues more accommodating.

Invisible Disabilities Pass
Individuals with hidden or invisible needs for accessibility accommodation can show this pass image to any Unbound volunteer to discreetly indicate that you need reserved or early seating, Quiet Space access, directions to accessible toilets, or additional support as you navigate Unbound venues and events.

Audio Assistance: The keynote event will include American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and real-time captioning. There will also be ASL interpretation for all events on Saturday in the Katy Ballroom (Broadway Hotel). Assisted Listening Devices will be available on request at the keynote event, Katy Ballroom, Serendipity, and Orr Street Studios.

Seating: Throughout the festival, reserved seating will be available for attendees who request it. Please speak to a volunteer upon your arrival at the event and indicate your desire for early seating. Early admittance will be available at the keynote event. Before general admittance, Missouri Theatre will open to individuals requiring accessibility accommodations, plus two accompanying attendees (such as loved ones, aides, attendants, or support persons). Those in your party beyond your plus two should enter with general admission and may need to sit separately. Please speak to a volunteer if you need accommodation beyond this.

Service Dogs: Service Dogs in compliance with ADA Requirements are welcome in all Unbound venues. Our Unbound volunteers are available at every venue to ensure you are seated somewhere suitable. Please limit support animals to one.

Quiet Spaces: Quiet spaces will be available in Broadway Hotel and Serendipity Salon for those festival-goers who need a break from the stimulation and noise of the festival. If you use one of these spaces, please respect and accommodate the sensory needs of others using the room.

Toilets: Accessible restrooms will be available at all festival venues except Nightjar.

Drop-Off Zones: This is available at the Missouri Theatre (Keynote), Broadway Hotel, Serendipity Salon, Orr Street Studios. (See the taxi icon on the scalable festival map below.)

MOVING FORWARD: FEEDBACK!

Unbound is in the process of implementing our ever-evolving, concerted effort toward greater inclusion and accessibility. We have a lot in the works and a long way to go. Please be patient as we strive toward this important goal. As an entirely free and volunteer-run festival, even our initial plans may take years to implement.

Moving forward, we will need input and direction, especially from individuals with accessibility and inclusion needs. Their perspectives and those of their loved ones, aides, attendants, and support persons are very important to us.

To that end, please help us improve by emailing feedback to accessibility@unboundbookfestival.com

  • What did we do well? Kudos help us know what is working.

  • What can we improve? Help us make meaningful adjustments.

  • What did we totally forget? Share additional accommodations you hope to see.
